Wayag view

When people imagine Raja Ampat, they picture Wayag — the stunning cluster of emerald islands rising from turquoise lagoons.Often called the “Crown of Raja Ampat”, Wayag is one of Indonesia’s most iconic landscapes and a destination that leaves every visitor speechless.

Here, time slows, the air feels impossibly pure, and nature reveals its raw, untouched beauty. It’s a place where adventure meets serenity — a journey to the edge of the world.

The Wayag Islands are located in the far northwest of Raja Ampat, accessible only by boat. They’re famous for their dramatic limestone karsts, crystal-clear water, and breathtaking viewpoints that overlook countless tiny islets scattered across a turquoise sea.

Top highlights include:

  • Shark Beach, where harmless blacktip reef sharks swim in shallow water

  • Crystal-clear lagoons perfect for swimming, kayaking, and snorkeling

  • Remote white-sand beaches framed by jungle-covered cliffs

  • Incredible photo opportunities at every turn — from sunrise to sunset

What to See

The Wayag Viewpoint:

The climb to the top is short but steep — and the view is worth every step. From above, you’ll see a surreal landscape of turquoise lagoons dotted with tiny green islands, stretching endlessly into the horizon. It’s one of those rare places where photos can’t capture the magic you feel standing there.

Shark Beach:A shallow bay where small blacktip reef sharks glide gracefully through clear water. You can wade or snorkel among them — it’s completely safe and unforgettable.

Underwater Life:

The waters around Wayag are teeming with marine life.Colorful corals, reef fish, turtles, and even mantas can be spotted in the surrounding areas.Although Wayag is not primarily a diving site, it offers excellent snorkeling and swimming in pristine, calm lagoons.

Untouched Nature:

Wayag is remote and protected — no resorts, no crowds, just pure wilderness. It’s one of the few places where you can still experience Raja Ampat as it was centuries ago.

What Makes It Unique

Wayag is more than just beautiful — it’s the symbol of Raja Ampat. Its towering karsts and glowing lagoons have become an icon of Indonesia’s natural heritage. Yet despite its fame, Wayag remains wild, quiet, and humbling.

Visiting Wayag feels like stepping into another world: no buildings, no noise, only the sound of the sea and the wind through the cliffs. It’s a place that inspires awe and reflection — a reminder of how extraordinary our planet can be.

How to Visit the Wayag Islands

  • Getting there: Wayag lies about 4–5 hours by boat from Villa Luzo in Waisai. It’s part of the “Explore Beyond” tour with Luzo Boat Tours, which also passes through West Waigeo’s remote islands.
